Photometric lighting software

Photometric Lighting Layout Software

Photometric lighting layout software combines measured luminaire data with geometry and project inputs to estimate light levels across a calculation grid. Lighting Studio presents that workflow in a browser for preliminary sales layouts, product comparisons and quote support.

What makes a layout photometric

A fixture count alone is not a photometric layout. The calculation must use the selected luminaire's intensity distribution, mounting conditions, space geometry and calculation points. An IES file supplies the measured distribution used by the layout engine.

Inputs that change the result

  • Fixture and IES distribution
  • Room, site or wall geometry
  • Mounting height and fixture orientation
  • Workplane or calculation-plane height
  • Surface reflectances for indoor work
  • Rows, columns, spacing and target footcandles

Outputs to review together

OutputWhat it helps reveal
Point-by-point valuesEstimated light level at each calculation point
HeatmapThe distribution pattern and transition between bright and dark areas
Fixture count and spacingThe preliminary arrangement used for the calculation
Power densityConnected lighting power relative to the modeled area
3D and top-down viewsPlacement context and plan-level coverage

Where a browser workflow fits

A browser workflow is useful when a manufacturer, distributor or rep needs a repeatable first-pass answer without opening a full desktop project. It is not a substitute for final engineering or a standards-compliance review.

Frequently asked questions

What data does photometric software need?

At minimum it needs a luminaire distribution, space or site dimensions, fixture placement and a calculation plane. Indoor work can also depend on surface reflectances.

Are heatmaps the same as point-by-point values?

No. A heatmap visualizes the distribution pattern, while point-by-point values show the numerical estimate at individual calculation locations.

Can the result be used as a final design?

Lighting Studio results are preliminary estimates. Final design, compliance and stamped documents require qualified professional review.
