Start with the warehouse geometry
Record the room length, width, clear height, fixture mounting height and the calculation workplane. Use the occupied task area rather than relying on floor area alone when the workplane matters.
Represent the surfaces
Ceiling, wall and floor reflectances affect interreflected light in an indoor model. Use reasonable project inputs and document assumptions instead of leaving a default value unexplained.
Test the fixture grid
- 1.Select the intended high-bay or low-bay fixture and its IES data.
- 2.Set mounting height and initial rows and columns.
- 3.Review the heatmap and point-by-point grid for dark lanes, perimeter falloff and hot spots.
- 4.Adjust spacing or orientation, then recalculate.
- 5.Export the selected preliminary arrangement with its assumptions.

Do not optimize only for average footcandles
An average can hide dark areas and bright hot spots. Review individual points, minimums, maximums and the pattern across aisles or work areas. Project requirements determine which metrics matter.
When to move to detailed design
Bring in a qualified lighting professional when the project needs final equipment coordination, controls, emergency lighting, code compliance, obstructions, daylight analysis or stamped documents.

Can Lighting Studio create high-bay layouts?
Yes. The indoor workflow can model preliminary warehouse arrangements using the selected high-bay IES file, mounting height, room inputs and fixture grid.
Why does mounting height matter in a warehouse?
It changes the distance and spread between the luminaire and calculation plane. The same fixture can produce a different intensity pattern and spacing result at another height.
Should I use average footcandles alone?
No. Review the point grid and distribution pattern as well as summary values so dark zones and hot spots are not hidden by the average.
